I wouldn't like to tar all the receptionists with the same brush, in the past I have always found them to be most helpful and accommodating. However since moving to the new practise there is one particular lady who appears to make it her mission each day to be as unhelpful as possible (new addition to the team?) when questioning about the lack of appointments in the afternoon I was told in no uncertain terms that 'that's standard in the practise I usually work in, there are not enough doctors working in the afternoons, there's nothing I can do about it'! In a very brash 'get on with it attitude'. This isn't the usual standard that I've come to expect from the Northbourne over the past 21 yrs. When I arrived for my recent appt I approached the reception desk, as I was seeing a locum doctor I was unsure if I was on the correct floor. I waited and waiting at the desk, trying to make eye contact with the above receptionist, there was no one in front of me. She was obviously busy typing something, which I understand but I felt a simple 'sorry to keep you waiting, I won't be a minute' would have gone a long way. Instead I was made to stand there without as I say any acknowledgment before I was confronted with a 'yes? Which resulted in me apologising for disturbing her! After sitting down I observed her behaviour with other patients who were dealt with/spoken to in the same steely approach. I've heard and read many items regarding the 'unapproachable' doctors receptionists and would state smugly that my GP surgery wasn't like that and considered myself fortunate. However I feel and find myself now commenting on such an issue, such a shame as had such a good reputation.

The surgery appears to be run by a dedicated efficient staff. I am so glad to be a patient at this surgery

Thank you for your comment, the first floor waiting room is rather a difficult shape and we have tried various options, however other patients have also commented on the current layout and you will be pleased to know we are currently looking at a few alternatives. Jill Grey Practice Manager

Great and helpful reception from the start. I wanted an appointment on the day I telephoned and got it. Always frustrating when phoning and getting constant engaged tone first thing in the morning . I would prefer to 'stand in line' and have acknowledgment of that instead of redialling. Would be great also to have some sort of scheme where it is possible to phone another number to the surgery and leave details with receptionist for hopeful appointments before surgery opens. Also how about just once a week having 'a drop in day' where you just turn up and wait your turn - say for one doctor. The Surgery is clean and welcoming for young toddlers and kids and seats are so comfortable. My only problem is with some of the patients who should present themselves better after all they know they are coming to a surgery and should know about personal hygiene.
